Combined here, in reverse chronological order, are two lost landmarks of prehistoric manic-depressive metal, from a short-lived and two-thirds teenage Brooklyn trio whose members went on to drum for the Ramones, produce Kiss and beef up countless '70s hard rock sessions. Dust, from 1971, is greasy-jeaned speed-sludge, often suggesting a more blues-primal MC5 and building to a monstrously rhythmic drag-race instrumental; 1972's Hard Attack, more ornate and pot-mythic, hints at Yes as much as The Stooges and climaxes with the over-the-top bummer "Suicide." Metal has rarely matched either album.
