Stand Up, originally released in 1969, is a transitional affair in Jethro Tull's discography. "A New Day Yesterday," a meaty chunk of British hard-rock that opens the album, continues in the vein of its predecessor, the primal This Was. The rest of the record, however, points towards the group's proggy future: flute-dominated art rock equally inspired by Traffic and Fairport Convention. This record must have come as a something of a shock to fans who were grooving to the group's hard rock fare.
