If you don't know Leonard Cohen, you might think his gravelly voice and crawling delivery are a product of his advanced age. But according to the man himself, this is wrong. "I'll get there when I'm due, don't need no starting gun/ It's not because I'm old, and it's not what dying does/ I've always liked it slow. Slow is in my blood," Cohen croons on the aptly titled "Slow." Then again, Popular Problems also sees him turning up the tempo on "Nevermind," where that gravelly voice is propelled by skeletal funk, strangled strings and the mournful cries of an Indian singer.
