At the time of its release in 1969, The Soft Parade was dismissed as the Doors' failed stab at Top 40 pap. But while the record is the band's most flawed, it has aged pretty well through the decades. The trippy orchestral pop of "Touch Me," "Tell All the People" and the title track isn't too dissimilar from what Scott Walker and the early Bee Gees were up to at the time. Morrison, a big Frank Sinatra fan, definitely had the pipes for such material. Unfortunately, he sounds under-rehearsed at times.
