Dublin's the Frames really hit their stride with this 2001 release. The lush instrumentation -- horns, strings, light percussion and guitar -- is arranged in just such a way as to soften the blow of the heartbreaking lyrics within. Every quiver of frontman Glen Hansard's vocals will break off a little piece of your heart; every bold cry will piece you back up again. Not many artists can have you empathizing on such a visceral level, but tracks like "What Happens When the Heart Just Stops," "Headlong" and "Disappointed" will hit your heart with Cupid's arrow and your gut with pure passion.
