These Brits open their sophomore album on a completely apathetic mid-twenties rant ("I know I am so self-obsessed, I guess/ But there's no hope, and I hope it's just a phase"). From there, The Vaccines keep the disaffected 'tude front-and-center, with their distorted, sometimes surf-y guitar riffs and scrappy beats hitting somewhere between the Arctic Monkeys ("Ghost Town"), The Ramones ("Teenage Icon") and Morrissey ("Weirdo"). Most of Come of Age is fairly mid-tempo; nothing here is as rambunctiously bouncy as their debut, but standouts come in "Bad Mood" and "I Wish I Was a Girl."
